SILVAN JORAY
is a Swiss jazz guitarist and composer currently based in New York City. He has gained recognition in the jazz community and gained critical acclaim across the world by his own album releases ‘Cluster’ and ‘Updraft’, in addition to winning several awards as UNISA International Strings Competition in South Africa 2022 and the Smietana Jazz Guitar Competition 2019 in Poland. He was initially interested in playing jazz standards and influenced by guitarists such as Wes Montgomery. However, his studies with renowned jazz guitarist Wolfgang Muthspiel at Jazzcampus Basel broadened his musical horizons, inspiring him to compose his own music. This eventually led to the release of his debut album "Cluster" in 2020, which was artistically produced by Muthspiel and co-produced by Swiss Radio SRF2.

Joray's latest album, "Updraft" features a stellar rhythm section with Jeff Ballard on drums and Nadav Erlich on bass. It showcases his forward-thinking original style characterized by a transparent tone, crispy articulation, creative rhythmic ideas and extended techniques like quarter tones and „tapping“ which are not traditionally associated with jazz guitar playing. Joray embraces both the openness of European as well as the rootedness and swing of American jazz. Updraft has gained critical acclaim across the world, including the New York City Jazz Record and Jazzwise (UK) who described him as „one of the most exciting young jazz guitarists on the international scene.”

FREDERIK VILLMOW is a jazz drummer, composer and bandleader. He was born in 1993 in Cologne/Germany, has a master degree from Jazzlinja ved NTNU in Trondheim, and currently lives in Oslo, Norway. GIANNI GAGLIARDI is a saxophonist and composer from Barcelona, based in Berlin and active on the International jazz scene.

His unique sound, originality and artistic integrity have allowed him to act worldwide in extremely diverse situations, from jazz to flamenco music, with great artists such as Al Foster, John Clayton, Dick Oats and Gilad Hekselman. He studied at the Berklee College of Music, State University of New York, Conservatorium Van Amsterdam, Conservatoire National Superior de Musique de Paris, Norwegian Academy of Music, The Rhythmic Conservatory of Copenhague and Basel’s Musik-Akademie. He has recorded extensively as a sideman and he has 5 records as a leader with great appreciation of the international press. He was a member of the 2021 FocusYear Band at Basel’s Conservatory.

Kertu Aer is a double bassist and composer, born in Estonia and living in Trondheim, Norway where she studied at the well-known Jazzlinja NTNU.

Kertu Aer captivates spontaneity and surprises in her music. She feels that jazz is the best way for her to express herself because in music based on improvisation, each performance is unique and interesting. There are so many variables that something extraordinary can always happen. Kertu Aer is influenced by a wide range of music, from pop to New York-style contemporary jazz, classical music to open improvisations. She has previously studied at the University of Tartu Viljandi Culture Academy, Sweden at Skurups Folkhögskola and Jazzlinja NTNU in Trondheim. Kertu plays in many different Scandinavian bands, including Sondre Moshagen Lightning Trio, awarded as ‘Young Jazzmusicians of the Year’ and currently performing at Oslo Jazzfestival featuring alto saxophonist Immanuel Wilkins. In addtion she’s part of bands like Mona Krogstad Quartet, DUBBELTRION, Cosmic Swing Orchestra, the brand-new quartet of Norwegian pianist Espen Berg featuring a stellar line up of Emma Rawicz, Håkon Mjåset Johansen & Kertu Aer, to be performing at Trondheim Jazzfestival 2025.

She has performed at jazz festivals in Sweden, Denmark, and Norway. Kertu also was invited to the concert series led by pianist/composer Pablo Held, ‘Pablo Held meets’ in Cologne, Germany.

„Kertu Aer is a very determined and extremely motivated young musician who never ceases to amaze with her work ethic, musicality, and attention to detail.“ -Peedu Kass
